2016 , A YEAR FOR ACTION- WORLD FOOD DAY Waste of plenty is the resource of scarcity
The theme for this year’s World Food Day is “Climate is changing. Food and agriculture must too” 2016, a year for action -The global goal for achieving Zero Hunger by 2030- we conducted activities to plant the seed of awareness on global hunger to children. Hence, apart from educating them and making them aware of the importance of food around the World they also enjoyed a day full of fun and entertainment.
During the first half of the day, the class teachers spoke to the children as to how we can avoid food wastage. They generated a sense of awareness among children about ‘Global Hunger’ and that many people around the world don’t have enough food to eat
After a sumptuous meal of the traditional foods that the children brought for lunch, the students were taken to the gymnasium where the teachers narrated a story using cutout of shapes.
This interdisciplinary approach was integrated to the lesson on Shapes which the students were already learning in their regular math periods. They learnt songs on healthy foods , food wastage and how to avoid junk food.
The students brought a variety of Traditional food from across the globe in their Tiffin boxes. We also discussed about the names and origin of the food.
All the mothers cooperated and took the effort and time to pack these goodies for their children.
The main objective of the day’s activities were to make children aware that –
‘Our planet has enough to feed all the people, provided we don’t waste it by throwing away the food or taking more then what we can consume.’
